Orji Uzor Kalu Gets ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ Card!

Orji Uzor Kalu, senator and former Abia State Governor, who was being detained for alleged corrupt malpractices while in service, has, on Wednesday, regained his freedom, after spending many months in a jail cell.

The former Abia strong man strolled out of jail on Tuesday after Justice Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos, signed his Warrant of Release.

On the grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case, the Supreme court on May 8, 2020, nullified Kalu and Udeogo’s conviction

The former governor was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on December 5, 2019, after he was convicted of N7.1bn fraud in connivance with his company, Slok Nigeria Limited, and Ugo Udeogu, a former Director of Finance during his tenure.
