The bubble has finally burst as Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, after a meeting with PMB at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, formally announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This coincided with the Screening Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) upholding of the disqualification judgement earlier passed on the embattled governor, which disqualified him from contesting the party’s Primaries.
The decision followed a review of a report submitted by the party’s screening committee.
Dr. Abubakar Fari, Chairman of the Appeal Panel, who submitted the committee’s report to the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee, also revealed that only one out of the three disqualified aspirants appealed the decision.
“We looked at the grounds on which Obaseki was disqualified and I would like to say his disqualification was based on solid grounds,” Fari said.
It also noted he owned two separate voter cards besides inconsistencies in information supplied by him, on his Application form.
Chris Ogiemwonyi and Mathew Iduoriyekenwen were also axed by the APC for various offences against the party.
Therefore, the three aspirants cleared to take part in the primary on June 22 are Mr. Osaro Obaze, Dr. Pius Odubu and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
