Hard drugs including cannabis sativa (Marijuana), cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine otherwise called mkpurumiri, tramadol and rephynol, amongst many others and weighing in at a total of 621,085 kilograms has been confiscated in lmo state by agents of The Imo state command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The NDLEA state Commander of Narcotics, Mr. Nse Inam while briefing journalists in Owerri, the Imo state capital, stated that the current COVID-19 pandemic had affected their activities in the first half of the year 2020, adding that the worst hit was the agency’s public enlightenment and hard drug education.
“In the area of prosecution, the command did not also fare better as the Federal High Court Owerri, was also shut down. We are now relieved that the court has started sitting”.
While commending stakeholders for the breakthroughs, he also stated that the state command could never have achieved anything without their support.
He said “As we re-strategize to ensure love that the state is not a safe place for illicit drug activities, we therefore call on all public spirited individuals, relevant stakeholders and Imolites to continue to extend their supports to NDLEA in order to achieve the above goal for the benefit of all.”
He also thanked the NDLEA national headquarters, Imo State Command and the Media, for their support in ensuring that drug trafficking and addiction becomes nonexistent or reduced to nothingness.
