Fulham reaches championship place-off finals

The final game of a (very) long season
Tuesday, 4 August: Brentford v Fulham

That’s it for our live coverage of this evening’s Championship play-off semi-final second leg.

A spirited performance from Cardiff almost saw the Bluebirds recover from a first-leg deficit.

But Fulham held on to seal a 3-2 win on aggregate and set up a play-off final against local rivals Brentford.

Some 368 days after Luton met Middlesbrough in the first game of the 2019-20 English Football League season, we’ll have the final match of the campaign with a Premier League place at stake.

I, for one, can’t wait for Tuesday’s encounter at Wembley Stadium.

Two years after winning promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs, Fulham are heading back to Wembley Stadium.

Opponents Brentford have never won in eight previous play-off campaigns, and have lost three finals.

But this Bees side are a free-flowing attacking outfit and, going up against’s Fulham’s possession game, Tuesday’s match could be quite the occasion.

It’s an all-west London final, and it’s just a shame fans of both clubs will miss out on being at the national stadium because of social distancing measures.
