The Alumni Association of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) , Oto/Ijanikin, has protested the poor treatment meted out to teachers by the employers all over the country during this year’s World Teacher’s Day Celebration.
In a statement issued by its National Public Relations officer, Mr. Opeyemi Eniola, titled; “WTD: Nigerian teachers are underpaid”, the association accused many schools in Lagos State and across the nation of paying below the minimum wage and also engaging non – qualified teachers to teach the pupils.
While calling on the both the Federal and state governments to set a standard and keep strict enforcement, the association said that most of the private schools are culpable.
“Celebrating this year’s world Teachers’ Day themed ‘Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future’, education would be effective when qualified teachers are employed and they are well paid”.
“We celebrate all our members, especially those in the teaching profession, only the best is expected from us at all time,” the statement added.
