The All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked the rumour making the rounds about the organization’s intention to present former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as it’s presidential flag-bearer in 2023.
This was made known by the APC Caretaker committee chairman, Mai Mala Buni to counter rumours which had emanated last week, that some Northern governors were working hard to ensure that the former president gets the APC ticket.
Buni, who is also the Governor of Yobe state denied that the party had such plans. He however described the ex-president as an elder statesman who should be accorded great respect, while speaking on BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday.
“I know people will judge based on our visit to Jonathan when he celebrated his birthday. But that is just a visit to him as a former president, it has no political inclinations. He is a former president and an elder statesman who is respected by many people in the country.
“Did Jonathan declare interest to contest for the presidency? In politics, we do visit each other either for celebration or to sympathise depending on what happened to anyone among us,” he said.
