The Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) is set to hold its 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Congress from 23rd to 25th July at the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo state.
This announcement was made Thursday 9th July 2021 at a press briefing held at the newly refurbished AAAN Secretariat in Lagos by members of the AAAN leadership.
The theme for this year’s AGM/Congress is “Boom, Gloom and Doom! Where do we sit?”
Mr. Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, will be among prominent dignitaries at the 48th Annual General Meeting/Congress of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria. The Governor is expected to declare open the AGM. The Honourable Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed will also be in attendance as the Special Guest of Honour.
The President of the Association, Mr Steve Babaeko stated that the Association’s AGM is a platform to actively engage in intellectual and critical discourse on the challenges facing the business and practice of Advertising in Nigeria and advocate unconventional solutions in rebuilding and rebranding the industry.
Babaeko who expressed optimism over the coming AGM being his first event since the COVID-19 struck said, “hosting members and stakeholders at Ibadan. The venue is landmark for us as we want our members to leave the hustle and bustle of Lagos. Speaking on the theme of the AGM, “Doom, Gloom, Boom: Where do we sit?” Babaeko explained that it was necessary to evaluate where the industry has been, where the industry is at the moment and where it intends to get to in the nearest future.
The Chairman of the Events Planning Committee, Mr. Doyin Adewumi stated that the Association has come to a decision to invite leading experts in their fields to lead the discourse on the theme. He further stated that the impact of the discourse will be beneficial to delegates and members of the Association.
To emphasize the importance of the AGM, the Association has invited Mr. Abubakar Suleiman (MD, Sterling Bank Plc), Mitchell Elegbe (MD/CEO, Interswitch) and Mr. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji (Founder, Future Africa) as speakers. The panelists include, Mrs. Cherry Eromosele, Group Chief Marketing & Corporate Communications Officer, Interswitch, Mrs. Bukola Akingbade, CEO, Image and Time, Mr. Lanre Adisa, CEO, Noah’s Ark, Mr. Tunde Dosekun, Managing Director, DDB Lagos, Miss Nnenna Onyewuchi, Co-Founder/Director of Strategy, Yellow Brick Road, Mr. Dipo Adesida, Chief Operating Officer of Verdant Zeal Group.
He added that in recognition of meritorious service, some senior members will be honoured and given special recognition awards. Also, young practitioners who have showed exceptional leadership will also be recognised at the AGM/Congress.
Also lined up as part of activities for the AGM is the induction and issuance of certificates to 14 new members of the association. AAAN is also set to recognize four individuals who have contributed to the success of the industry across four categories: Lifetime Achievement, Service to Association and Trailblazers Award.
Recall, the association’s maiden formal meeting took place in June 1971 under the chairmanship of the late Mr. Dotun Okubanjo. The association mission statement is: “To regulate the practice of advertising among member-agencies towards improving standards, corporate respectability, profitability and knowledge, encourage symbiotic relationships among practitioners and other related sectoral bodies, in order to enhance the business environment in which we operate, thereby strengthening the contribution of advertising to the nation’s development”.
