A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded Sani Abubakar, a 32-year-old labourer, in prison, for defiling a 9-year-old minor, who is reportedly his neighbour’s daughter.
Mr Abubakar, who resides at Malali, Kaduna State, is being tried for defilement.
According to the prosecutor, Mr. Chidi Leo, who spoke for prosecution in the court on Wednesday, Mr Abubakar, the defendant, is being tried for defilement as he had had carnal knowledge of the girl in his room after she returned from an errand he had sent her on September 28.
The prosecutor added that the defendant was arrested when the mother questioned the nine-year-old on why she was not walking normally and she told her what the defendant did to her.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not accept Mr Abubakar’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre.
After directing the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, the magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel, is adjourned the case until October 29 for further hearing.
